The Digital Fellows Program is a global community of professional and academic influencers within the Digital Economy space, advising the Chair in Digital Economy. Digital Fellows are recognised as impactful members of the larger Chair in Digital Economy ecosystem.
What is the role of a Digital Fellow?
Digital Fellows engage in collaborative activities with the Chair in Digital Economy to proactively investigate and stimulate opportunities provided by the Digital Economy.
The program is focused on expanding the Digital Economy ecosystem through facilitation of collaborative activities, including: research, podcasts, global events and advocacy.
There are two streams of Digital Fellowships – Academic and Industry. Digital Fellows are invited by the Chair in Digital Economy according to their experience and area of expertise.

Dr Ivano Bongiovanni
Academic Digital Fellow
An expert in information security and design-led innovation, Ivano is based at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.

George Cairns
Social Innovation
Having trained and worked as an architect before becoming Professor of Management, George brings together understandings of design and business and their relationship. He specialises in the use of scenario methods to explore possible and plausible future outcomes from ‘wicked’ problems, to inform decision making for social and environmental good.

Joachim van den Bergh
Smart Cities
Since September 2006, Joachim has worked as a senior research associate at Vlerick Business School in the Technology & Operations Management Area. His main research and teaching interests are focused on digital transformation and innovation, smart cities, eGovernment, and business process management.

Michael Leyer
Future of Work | Service System Design
Michael’s research is mainly empirical using quantitative data to explore the design of individual workplaces, the integration of customers and value creation in services. Next to publishing in international leading journals, he works closely with industrial partners to ensure a maximum impact of research results.

Paul Paterson
Telecom in the Digital Economy | Digital Disruption
Paul Paterson owns and operates the specialist telecommunications and digital economy consulting business, Digital Economics Advisory. Typical assignments involve economics-based advice on strategies to maximise beneficial outcome from telecommunications policies, and how economic regulation needs to change to be effective in the digital world we all now inhabit.
