Brisbane’s Chief Digital Officer Cat Matson has been recognised as one of Australia’s top digital innovators winning DX Leader for Australia in the 2018 IDC Digital Transformation Awards (IDC DX Awards).
The IDC DX Awards recognise leading organisations who champion digital transformation in the Asia Pacific Region.
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said it was the first time a local government leader had been recognised nationally for digital leadership, strengthening Brisbane’s reputation as a hub for innovation.
“Brisbane was the second city in the world to appoint a CDO and I congratulate Ms Matson for her commitment to driving the city’s digital transformation,” Cr Quirk said.
Ms Matson, appointed in 2014, said it was a great honour to be recognised in this way.
“My approach to digital transformation has always been through the lens of empowerment to allow businesses and residents to thrive in our globally-connected world,” Ms Matson said.
“Through the Digital Brisbane 2.0 Strategy we have focused our attention on several initiatives to take the city forward over the next decade.
“These initiatives have so far empowered more than 1500 small businesses to use digital technologies, taught more than 3900 children to code, provided grants to 95 startup and high growth businesses and strengthened our partnership with the QUT Chair in the Digital Economy.”
QUT Chair in Digital Economy Professor Marek Kowalkiewicz said Ms Matson was one of the best leaders he had worked with in Silicon Valley, Singapore and Australia.
“Digital transformation is about people and technology is an enabler that helps humans in every aspect of their lives,” he said.
“Cat’s passionate commitment to ensure people are always at the core of digital strategies is what sets her apart. It’s how we designed the Digital Brisbane 2.0 Strategy and why her contribution to founding the Chair research has achieved global impact.”
Ms Matson will now represent Australia at the IDC DX Award Regional Finals on October 25, competing against country winners from Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, South Korea, India, and New Zealand. For more information, visit www.IDCDXawards.com.
